Kristi and I spent a wonderful English evening in last night. I got off work early and spent the afternoon chopping wood and cleaning up the garden. Kristi didn't make it back from work until about 7ish. She brought home a Turkish kebab for herself and was nice enough to go out and grab me fish and chips (yum...) before the local shop closed. So we sat outside under the wonderful sun, which finally went down about 10, and ate our dinner. Good times. To top off our evening we tossed in the movie RENT that we go from Netflix. Now I have never seen this show on stage so I don't know about it but the movie was emotionally exhausting. The actors and singing was amazing but the story is very raw, about real (movie real) people living poor, on the street, with AIDS, drugs, alternative lifestyles (all of them). I would normally not even entertain a movie about all this stuff... Not because I want to forget that these are real problems faced by people everyday but becauseeveryday life is already full of hardship. I didn't like all the story had to offer but the Truth it did have is worth considering.
Despite the raw, and sometimes lewd, subjects and visuals something about the story was very impacting. I'm not sure exactly what it was maybe the honesty of the characters, or the story itself... In reality, I am probably the villain in the story, the clean cut guy in the suit who moved out of the dark, dingy, neighborhood and came back to build and improve the place. I don't embrace many of the choices that the characters made but there is something about the friendship, support, and honesty that keeps me interested beyond the objectionable themes.
OK enough from me, I am really curious to know what other people think about the story (play or movie) if you have seen it. Leave a short note if you have a chance, we would love to hear from you.

Hi!
I watched the movie with Bev :)... I agree with you, Jamie. The movie really gripped me. To quote you, "I don't embrace many of the choices that the characters made but there is something about the friendship, support, and honesty that keeps me interested beyond the objectionable themes."
Love you!
I think the is a GREAT movie. Sure it's not fun to watch, but neither is daily life. This is the world. There are so many people in the world that are dealing with these same issues and I think the question that we should be asking ourselves is would we be a part of it. Would we be willing to engage it or would we run from it b/c we're scared of it? I know what Christ would do. He would put himself smack dab in the middle of it. He'd rent the apartment next door and go to the support group with the cross-dresser with HIV. That's where he'd be and I think that's where we should be too.
